Our Terms & Conditions

Courses & Trips

Canterbury Kayaking’s course cancellation policy is designed to allow customers to cancel their booked kayak course/s, provided enough notice is given. We do charge a fee for all cancellations and rescheduled spots.

Rescheduling your Course or Trip Spot (10% Fee)

  • Canterbury Kayaking will gladly re-book your course or trip to a new date provided there is another spot available, and you contact us at least 7 days in advance of your course start date & time.
  • You will NOT be able to reschedule or cancel you if you provide less than 7 days notice.
  • To reschedule your course or trip spot, please check our calendar to see if there is a space available on another date you want. Then please email us to request the change. We will email you back with a customer code that you can use to book your new date through our website for just 10% of the regular price.
  • If there are no more spots left available on our calendar to reschedule to, we will need to treat as a cancellation (see below).

Cancelling your Course or Trip Spot (20% Fee)

  • Canterbury Kayaking will gladly cancel your course or trip spot provided you contact us at least 7 days in advance of your course start date & time.
  • You will NOT be able to reschedule or cancel you if you provide less than 7 days notice.
  • To cancel your spot, please email us and be clear that you need to cancel.
  • We will then remove you from your booked date, and issue a refund (less a 20% fee) back to your original payment method.

Transferring Your Spot to Another Person

  • Canterbury Kayaking course and trip spots are non-transferable. We do NOT currently have a system in place to transfer booked spots from one person to another.
  • If you know someone who would like to take your place on a course you cannot make, please contact us to discuss this.
  • We will still process your booking as a cancellation (refund with 20% charge as above), however we may be able to offer the booking opportunity to a nominated person before advertising to the general public.
  • This is less likely to be possible if we are very close to the course/trip start date and will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Cancelling During a Course or Trip

  • Once your course or trip has started you will NOT have the opportunity to reschedule to a new date, or cancel and receive a refund.
  • If you become ill, injured, or for any reason cannot continue with the planned activities, you will not be entitled to a refund or postponement.
  • Depending on the circumstances, Canterbury Kayaking may be able to offer you the option to purchase a future booking at a reduced rate (this is not always possible, and totally at the discretion of Canterbury Kayaking management).

Use of Hire Equipment During Courses / Trips

  • Some of Canterbury Kayaking’s courses and trips allow you to bring your own kayak & equipment. If you choose to book using your own kayak or equipment, and for whatever reason you end up using some of Canterbury Kayaking’s hire equipment, then we expect you to please pay the hire fees. This is based on a competitive daily rate for the number of days you use the equipment for.
  • Reasons you may end up using our hire equipment when you originally booked to use your own gear could include; your own kayak/equipment is damaged or unsafe or unreliable for the river, your kayak/equipment is not suitable for your current ability (your boat is too advanced for you), at any stage you request to use our kayaks/equipment instead of your own, you wish to demo or try one of our kayaks or paddles during your course or trip, you forget a piece of essential gear.
  • Some of our courses include the free use of our hire kayaks and equipment. If you mistreat or loose any of this equipment during a course or trip, we may require you to pay for replacement or repair.

Cancellations made by Canterbury Kayaking Staff

  • Safety or other requirements may force us to cancel your booked kayak course or trip. This may be because of one, or multiple factors (eg. bad weather, river flow level, wind forecast, staff illness, client skill/experience level, etc).
  • If we need to cancel your course we will contact you as soon as possible via the details you provided at the time of booking.
  • We may be forced to cancel your course the morning-of, or part-way through your course as conditions change. If this happens you will be refunded course/trip fees for the number of days cancelled
  • Examples: If we cancel your entire course/trip, you will receive a 100% refund. If we cancel a single day of your four-day course, you will receive a 25% refund.
