WAIMAKARIRI GORGE GUIDED TRIP (FULL DAY)
An absolute must-do expereince before race day.
Prepare for the Kathmandu Coast to Coast kayak leg with our Waimakariri River Guided Kayak Trip. We’ll help you get through the Gorge safely, and ensure you learn a lot during your day on the water.
We run a super-small group size of just two or three paddlers per guide. This makes our trips the safest in the industry and allows our coaches to focus more of their attention on you. Get more value out of your day as you receive expert technique and line advice as you paddle.
Gain the expereince you need by paddling through the Gorge from Mt White to Woodstock (5-6 hours). If you are doing the Coast to Coast event for the first time, we highly recommend doing this trip with us prior to race day so you are familiar with the lines. Our guided trips make learning the lines easy, safe, and enjoyable.
Dates will be available soon. These trips normally run November through February.
- Paddle in your multisport race boat. Kayak & wing-paddle hire available.
- Expereince the Coast to Coast Race route.
- FREE shuttle from Christchurch provided.
- Paddle in a small group size of 2-4 paddlers per guide.

We value client and staff safety above all else. This trip can only be run in calm-weather and low-flow conditions. Please be aware your booking could be called off at any time due to strong winds, higher than normal river flows, or very cold air-temperatures.
We understand how important this trip can be to your race preparations, however the weather is obviously out of our control and not every trip will go ahead.
- Recent Grade 2 Cert + adequate skills, fitness, & experience to handle the rapids and river features on this river.
- You must be able to swim and independently self-rescue with your boat + paddle.
- You need to be of good health & high fitness.
- You need to be between 16-65 years old.
- You need to be between 50-110kg.
If you have very limited river paddling experience in a long kayak, we recommend considering our four-day Coast to Coast Skills Course, which includes a guided trip as part of a skills improvement package.
“Canterbury Kayaking gave me the confidence to have a really enjoyable race day”
Thanks very much for your expert coaching, the time on the water with Canterbury Kayaking gave me the confidence to have a really enjoyable race day. I got through with my hair dry and in a time that I was really happy with and a big part of that was the time spent on the river with you and your team. We had such a great time that we signed up the team for 2021, who would’ve thought?
“I really couldn’t have done it without your team’s guidance”
A massive thanks to you and your team for getting me to the point where I was super comfortable heading through the gorge on c2c race day with no issues at all. I really couldn’t have done it without your team’s guidance in the lead up to the event!
“I had a great race”
Cheers to you and the CK team. I had a great race in the kayak easily passing through all the parts of the gorge with your tips and teachings ringing in my head haha. Didn’t come out once which made it a great time. Thanks!
