Refresh your grade 2 certificate for the Coast to Coast.
To renew your kayak certification, simply book a course or trip that you are eligible to attend based on the guidelines below.
Grade 2 Renewal Options:
Waimakariri Gorge: Guided Trip (1 Day)
If you have successfully paddled the Waimakariri Gorge within the last 5 years, you are welcome to renew your certification on our single-day Waimakariri Gorge Guided Trip.
This is a great option for confident paddlers who feel comfortable with their current ability and simply require a reassessment.
Waimakariri Gorge: Skills Course (3 Days)
If you have successfully paddled the Waimakariri Gorge within the last 10 years, you are welcome to renew your certification on our 3-day Waimakariri Gorge: Skills Course.
This is a great option for paddlers who have spent some time away from paddling and would benefit from 2 days of coaching on easier river sections before being assessed in the Gorge on day 3.
Waimakariri Gorge: First Timer's Course (3 Days)
If you have achieved your grade 2 certificate within the last 3 years, but not paddled the Waimakariri Gorge yet, you are welcome to renew your certification on our 3-day Waimakariri Gorge: First Timers Course.
This option is great for paddlers who have not done much paddling since completing their grade 2 course and want to now resume their kayak training.
Grade 2 Certificate Course (4 Days)
If you do not meet the requirements for the options above, we invite you to enjoy a comprehensive refresher by booking our 4-day Grade 2 Certificate Course.
Even if you are eligible for one of the other options, you may still choose this program if you’d like to gain more confidence in whitewater or have previously learned with another company and would like a fresh start with Canterbury Kayaking.
